Bison Favored to Win Outdoor Crown Press Release OBU May 23, 2007

A second red National Championship banner for 2007 is possible for Oklahoma Baptist University and a third might not be out of the question.

Oklahoma Baptist enters the 2007 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Fresno, Calif., Thursday as a strong favorite on the men’s side and a close second among the women’s field.

OBU, which sent 22 men and 14 women to compete in the three-day event, has won two women’s indoor track and field titles in the last three seasons, including a narrow win over Wayland Baptist this year.

The OBU men finished second at this year’s NAIA Indoor Meet, but the roles may be reversed if the seedings hold up in the outdoor meet.

Oklahoma Baptist put it all together Saturday and cruised to the NAIA Region VI and Sooner Athletic Conference championship in Shawnee. The Bison won the regional with 31 points and cruised past runner-up Wayland Baptist by 27 points. The OBU women, however, finished third and ended its seven-year reign atop the region and conference.
