Tulsa Cross Country Teams Finish Third at Southern Stampede

Tulsa, Oklahoma – The Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams each
posted third-place marks at the Southern Stampede, hosted by Missouri
Southern on Saturday.

Junior Lise Olivier recorded the Golden Hurricane women's top finish
with a 14th-place mark in a time of 17:54.30 for the 5000-meter course.
Sophomore Breanna Chipney was the next TU runner to cross the line with
a 17th-place finish in a time of 17:58.00. Freshmen Alex Becker and
Marissa Saunders notched the third- and fourth-place marks for Tulsa in
times of 18:13.20 and 18:16.30, respectively. Junior Shantel Girtley
claimed the fifth slot for the Golden Hurricane and a 25th-place
overall
mark in a time of 18:16.90. Nearly 300 runners competed in the event,
representing 35 teams on the women's side.

Five sophomores led TU's charge on the men's side of the 8000-meter
course, with Brett Turowski recording the top Golden Hurricane finish
with a 16th-place mark in a time of 25:12.40. Joel Stansloski claimed
the No. 2 slot for Tulsa with a time of 25:26.60 for a 19th-place
overall mark. Mathew Musengezi and Edwin Henshaw finished 27th and 32nd
overall in times of 25:50.70 and 25:57.10, respectively. Jay Matlack
rounded out TU's top-five runners with a 43rd-place mark in a time of
26:21.50. More than 300 runners ran in the collegiate men's event,
representing 33 schools.

"We did well today," Head Coach Steve Gulley said. "The women improved
on last years' results. They ran well and were very competitive. The
men
also had good performances and showed more balance as a team. Overall,
I
am very pleased with our results today."

Tulsa will take a week off before competing at the Oklahoma State
Cowboy
Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., on October 1st.
