Junior posts best ever finish for Sooner woman
LAWRENCE, Kan. – University of Oklahoma junior Jessica Eldridge earned all-conference honors for the third time in her career with a fourth-place run at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships Friday, Oct. 27.
The OU women finished eighth overall (172 points). The Sooner men were ninth (246).
Eldridge ran the 6,000-meter course at Rim Rock Farm in 21 minutes, 9 seconds. Her finish is the best ever by a Sooner woman at the Big 12 meet, breaking her own record finish of 10th in 2003. She was also 12th in 2004.
Colorado swept both the men's (36 points) and women's (45) titles. The Colorado men have won all 11 Big 12 Conference championships. The CU women have won 10.
Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego was the top female (20:01) and Kansas' Colby Wissel was top male (24:35).
OU's Catherine Odell scored 25th place (22:17). Freshman Ashley Storm was 43rd (22:44). Aja Clark (50th, 22:57) and Kristi Cook (54th, 23:06) completed the women's team.
Junior Jason Coleman finished as OU's No. 1 male in 37th place. He paced the 8,000-meter men's course in 25:43. Seven freshmen followed Coleman, proving that OU would continue a move towards the top of the conference standings in future years.
Rob Sorrell was 39th (25:48); Jon Grey finished 40th (25:50); Jacob Boone raced to 73rd (26:52); Dusty Langwell was 77th (27:02); J.B. Lagos placed 89th (27:37); Chris Sweeney finished 92nd (27:40); and Matt Daniels was 93rd (27:41).
