This weekend is the Arkansas HS Indoor Invitational. Although not taking place in Oklahoma, many athletes will make the drive over to Fayetteville to compete against some top regional talent. Throughout this article will be the top athletes to look out for based out of Oklahoma. Stay tuned for after meet recaps via our podcast "TheOKRunShow" and articles on this site.
GIRLS 60M
Leading the way for Oklahoma athletes to watch out for in this race is senior Nia Moore from Edmond Santa Fe. Moore was 4th in the 100m last year at the outdoor 6A state meet and is the 9th ranked returner in the state in that event. Although the 60 is a shorter race, it will be interesting to see how Moore opens her season.
GIRLS 200M
Victoria Porter out of Broken Arrow recently broke the indoor 400m state record and she leads the way for Oklahoma athletes in the 200m for this weekend. It is more than just Porter though, as other elite sprinters Daijah Gaines (Union), Alyssa Little (Union), and Nina Moore (Edmond Santa Fe) are also in this event.
GIRLS 1 MILE
An athlete to watch out for is Emma Johnson out of Edmond North. Johnson is coming off of a strong cross country season and will look to open her indoor season up well.
GIRLS 60MH
Amaya Harrison out of Union leads the way for Oklahoma athletes in this event. Harrison is the 2nd ranked returner coming into this outdoor season so definitely watch out for her in this indoor season.
GIRLS 4x400M
Union is running a 4x400 against top regional talent this weekend. It is unsure who they are running, but if the top athletes run, it will be interesting to see how they perform. The addition of Alyssa Little is huge for their 4x400 squad.
GIRLS PV
Sophomore Josie Fowler out of Broken Arrow is the current number one ranked pole vaulter in Oklahoma this indoor season. It is likely that she may improve upon her mark 12-0 this weekend.
GIRLS SP
Carly Borgelt out of Union leads the way for Oklahoma athletes coming into this event. She is the 9th ranked returner from last outdoor season and is ranked 2nd in the state for indoor so far this season.
BOYS 60M
Kyler Brown from Booker T. Washington just broke the 60m indoor state record last weekend and will look to do so again this weekend. Brown will go against top out of state talent and a handful of strong sprinters from Union as well.
BOYS 200M
The 200m features Kyler Brown once again, Jarek Watie from Union, and Boston Carrasco from Union. This event is going to be exciting as these athletes get the chance to race against other regional talent. Look for another indoor state record to possibly go down.
BOYS 800M
The 800m has a handful for sub 2 athletes like Jayt Drew out of Cache and Daniel Davis from Union. Also watch out for Madden Rutherford, Cam Mccool, Clay Mckinney, Karon Pillow, Ethan Brooks, and Maxton Barker.
BOYS 1 MILE
There is a deep field of Oklahoma athletes in this event. Instead of listing them all the biggest thing to watch out for is the Dominic Matthias, Mez Barth, Cameron Langdon, and Zachary Williams match up. Also interesting to note: Indoor state record holder in the 800m, Harry Ormiston, is also running this event. There is a high likelihood that this event gets taken out hard from the gun.
BOYS 3000M
Zachary Williams is the leader for Oklahoma athletes in this event. Look for another sub 9 performance.
BOYS 60MH
Kedan Johnson out of Broken Arrow is the 5th returner from the 100MH in last year's outdoor season and currently 2nd in the 60MH for Oklahoma this indoor season.
BOYS 4x800M
Edmond Memorial is one of Oklahoma's top 4x800m programs and will look to further show that this weekend against top out of state talent.
BOYS HJ
Ty Burnett out of Bristow is the leading returner from last outdoor season with a jump of 6'10. Watch for him to improve on this mark.
BOYS LJ
Atticus Thompson, the junior from Clinton, is the lead returner from last year and is the indoor leader in this event so far. Look for him to have a good day.
Thanks for reading and best of luck to all the athletes competing.
