Nike Team National rankings are out and the Mustang girls cross country
team are ranked 10th in the south region; making them the only Oklahoma
team to make the rankings. Mustang head coach Mike McGarry is
excited about both his men and women\'s teams. Coach McGarry states, \"our
girls are rebuilding, we lost two runners from last year\'s team that were
in our top five.\" One of those runners being 5A cross country state
runner-up Danielle Zanotti, who is now attending Kansas State University
and playing basketball for the Wild Cats. Stepping up will be Sr. Katy
Grant, who finished 4th last October at the state meet, as well as
fellow Sr. Elizabeth Snyder, who had a 12th place showing at last year\'s
state meet. Coach McGarry had much praise for both of his seniors, \"Katy
and Elisabeth are both hard workers and goal oriented.\" Others looking
to contribute to the team will be Bailey Thompson, who was a member of
the 2004 state championship team, along with other underclassmen which
includes four new freshmen that will be battling for spots on the team.
Mustang also has high hopes for their boy\'s team as well, with the
return of the top six runners from their 3rd place finish last year at
state. Among the returnees are 2004 state champion, Kevin Schwab, who
McGarry says \"is looking better then ever.\" The Mustang Cross Country team
will see their first team competition on September 24th at their home
meet, the Mustang Harrier Invitational. The next Nike Team National
rankings will be released on September 17th. The top two teams in each
region and four at large bids will be invited to Portland, OR on
December 3rd to compete in the meet.
