You May Have Missed It Week 6
Deer Creek JV Unstoppable?
A great JV team is a mark of a strong program but who has the best program in the state? This has been a big topic of conversation over the past week or so. Many teams attempted to lay claim that they had the best JV squad in the state but only one could prevail. Deer Creek Edmond dominantly won the 6A JV race with only 20 points scored with an average that if they had run the varsity race would have placed them 9th as a team. Of course, this race didn't have representation from every possible contender. I vote that we settle this once and for all at the state meet. We need an open-division race where any school that qualified for the state meet can enter a JV team. Would it be chaos? Possibly. Am I here for chaos? Absolutely.
Micah John Is Back
Speaking of Deer Creek their lone returner from last season's top 5 is back in action finally after a minor setback near the end of summer. John was 15th last season as just a freshman and will be looking to improve upon that placement. His pre-state performance gives me great confidence that he will be able to score less than 10 points as Deer Creek's lead man. His presence as a strong low stick and one of the only athletes on their men's team with state meet pedigree will be huge for the Antlers looking to not fall too far from last year's stellar form.
Thomas Edison Invented The Light Bulb in 1879
Although the first sentence is debatable *allegedly* what isn't debatable is that Thomas Edison Preparatory has a legit squad this year. The Girls of Edison dominated the Holland Hall meet this past weekend scoring just 33 points. Quietly Edison has been putting up a strong resume and should be considered the second-best team in 5A only behind Bishop Kelley. Their men are also no slouch led by Henry Zoellner who is is a potential top 3 athlete in the 5A division.
Emma Robinson Continues To Roll
Every week it seems like the same story for Claremore's Emma Robinson. Every week I open up results to a Tulsa area meet and see Robinson won by 2 minutes again. Well, this week was no different at Pryor where she won by 3 minutes. Just want to give her a nod to let everyone know that she will be a strong contender at the 5A state meet.
Sugar Creek Showdown Was Sweet.
Unfortunately, pun intended. A couple of Oklahoma squads traveled across state lines to our smellier eastern neighbor so woo pig I guess. What I do want to highlight is the rise of Emma Johnson of Edmond North. Over the past few years, Emma Johnson has been overlooked with the likes of the Kirkland sisters coming through. Now she is in her senior year, it is her time to shine. She has already put together a strong senior campaign but this performance puts her over up a tier. She ran 18:05 on a course which isn't notoriously fast but she beat a couple athletes who are consistently amongst the top of Oklahoma. The Edmond North women also finished just 10 points behind a top 6a contender in Jenks.
