Oklahoma Boys Performer Of The Week (9/16-9/22)

Oklahoma Boys Performer Of The Week (9/16-9/22)

This past week was a fast one for Oklahoma. With some shocking performances and quick times all around, this last week did not disappoint. With big meets like Cowboy Jamboree and Chili Pepper coming up, these are your nominees for runner of the week before those meets hit this weekend

Last week's winner was Sawyer Strunk out of Piedmont. Strunk took 48% of the votes, narrowly beating out Charlie Ritchie from Bishop Kelley. Congratulations Sawyer!

Here are your nominees for this week's runner of the week poll.

Clay Mckinney out of Regent Prep was the runner up in the small school division at MSSU with a time of 15:45. Mckinney has run 15:27 this season, so its encouraging to see another quick time out of the junior.

Dominic Matthias, a freshman out of Moore, broke the state freshman record, school record, and set the state lead at MSSU. He placed 2nd overall in the big school division with a time of 15:18. Also outrunning former state lead, Zachary Williams by about 12 seconds.

Mez Barth continued his consistency with a win at the 6A Pre State division. His time of 15:50 marks another sub 16 performance.

Tesfaye Lire won a close race in the 5A division at Pre State. His time of 16:33 got the job done and he continues to prove himself as one of the best runners in 5A.

Jayden Polk took the 4A Pre State title with a time of 16:28. The sophomore from Purcell has had a great season and is one of the top guys in 4A.

Rylan Coleman outran some great runners at the Holland Hall invitational. The senior out of Sapulpa won with a time of 16:52. The Holland Hall course is known to be very challenging, so this time is more impressive than it appears on paper.

Nelin Kimery, Piedmont's lead runner, put up a 14:58 3 mile at Woodbridge in California. Kimery has put together a consistent season, and this performance just continues that. If we were to convert this to a 5k, it would be roughly 15:30.

Brody Maasen out of Jenks High School placed 2nd overall at Sugar Creek. His time of 15:33 sets up another quick time for him this season. Maasen has been consistent and sits securely towards the top of the state.
