What You May Have Missed Week 4

Where in the world is Porter and why is it consolidated?

As it turns out Porter Consolidated is just up the road from Muskogee but I still don't know why they are considered consolidated. Anyway, I bring them up because they are home to Abby Gourda Junior who won the Camp Gruber 2-mile race in just a hair under 13 min. While this isn't necessarily blistering it was done by about 2 minutes and puts her in serious contention in class A so I thought the world should know.

Sienna Collins Is Back, But Did They Take A Wrong Turn?

We got a peak of the Edmond Memorial Girls at the Deer Creek Field Run a few weeks back without Sienna Collins. Well, she made her debut and did not disappoint running 17:42 a PB but I have heard that a wrong turn was made on the course making the race distance closer to 3 miles. If that is the case I would add about 40 seconds to her time and that still puts her at 18:20 which is a great opener that would've put her 3rd overall at the Deer Creek meet (assuming equal course/conditions). Frankly, she is a dark horse all-state candidate similar to Charli Keely (Jenks) or Emma Johnson (Edmond North), can't wait to see her race the best of the best. I do hope I am wrong and they ran the full distance because now you catapult Collins into a top 3 conversation.

Also At Westmoore Maxton Barker Vs 3A's Finest

Westmoore gave us a small preview of the 3a individual championship race with Levi Haynes holding a pair of Casady athletes under 16:05. I discuss this a bit in my small school recap so I won't waste too much on it now. What I do want to talk about is Maxton Barker who in his final season came out the gate swinging running a PB of 15:43 and this bodes well for his chances at finishing top 5 at the 6a state meet. This is assuming they took the correct turn and didn't run less distance.

Mez Barth Is Super Consistent

In our weekly podcast (OKRunShow, it's free on Youtube) I've talked about how Mez is the most consistent man in any division. He always gets the job done always below 16 minutes and just plum tough to beat. I believe he is your 6a favorite and proved it once again handily defeating freshman sensation Dominic Matthias (Moore).

Don't Forget About Hennigh

Karson Hennigh is not a name I have discussed as a possible contender for the 3a glory but has been quietly putting together a strong season. This weekend he ran 16:06 at the OBU meet which if ran at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech is a very respectable time. In doing this he led the Chisholm Long Horns to a team victory as well as beating very strong small school athletes such as Jayden Polk (Purcell) and Brayden Cowan (Watonga). Have yourself a day Hennigh and the Long Horns, y'all are sneaking up to potentially upset some teams in 3A.

OBU Small School Girls Race Was Deep

Ryleigh Hodges (Metro Christian) and Metro Christian were your individual and team champion which shouldn't be too shocking as they are the defending 3A champions. What I want everyone to be made aware of is what happened just a few seconds back. First Addelyn Hart a freshman from Enduro Legacy (Non-OSSAA home school team) was second only a quarter second behind in 12:17 which is a strong time to be running as a freshman and we look forward to following her progress in the coming years. In doing this she beat some great small-school athletes like Reese Coleman (Watonga) and Rielyn Sheffe (Washington) who both are making strong cases as top tier contenders in their respective divisions.
