Turowski and Stansloski Earn All-Conference USA Honors on First Day of Competition

El Paso, Texas – Sophomores Brett Turowski and Joel Stansloski placed
second and third, respectively, in the 10,000-meter race and claimed
All-Conference USA honors in the first day of competition at the C-USA
Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The championships, which are
hosted by UTEP at Kidd Field, will continue today and Saturday, May 12-13.

Turowski turned in an impressive second-place time of 31:32.68 in the
10,000-meter run. His time was a personal-best, the fifth-best in
school history and earned him second-team all-conference honors. Stansloski
captured a time of 31:39.20 in the same event, earning him a
third-place finish and third-team all-conference accolades. Sophomores Jay
Matlack and Jason Schweitzer also turned in season-bests in the 10,000-meter
run for ninth- and 10th-place, respectively.

On the women's side, junior-transfer Stephanie Jeffers set a
personal-best and a school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 42.56m
(139'-7"). Senior Renine Le Heron's time of 39:57.68 in the
10,000-meter run was a personal-best, while sophomore Kelli Denny turned in a time
of 40:03.90.
