OU Sprinters Shine in Texas


Sophomore Marcus Pugh placed fourth in the men\'s 100-meter dash final, sprinting a personal best 10.31 seconds.

LSU\'s Kelly Willie won the race, clocking in with a wind-aided 10.18.

The men\'s 4x100-meter relay squad placed sixth in the final round. The team of Ronnie Pines, Tony Francis, Frankie Wright and Marcus Pugh circled the track in 40.29 seconds.

Pole vaulters Scott Martin and Chip Heuser placed eighth and ninth, respectively. Both cleared season bests of 17-0.75 (5.20).

Junior Kevin Bookout, in his first competition of the year, placed ninth in the shot put with a best throw of 57-9.00 (17.60). The result surpassed the regional qualifying standard.

Two Sooners also competed at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C., today with promising results.

Kristi Cook placed third in the women\'s 800-meter run. Cook\'s time of 2:09.24 ranked 10th on OU\'s all-time performance list.

Brayon Brown finished fifth in the men\'s 800-meter run. The sophomore\'s 1:49.57 run ranked eighth on OU\'s all-time performance list.
