Cowboy Veterans Cap Strong Performance at Stanford Invite

PALO ALTO, Calif. -
Oklahoma State's men's track team completed a successful weekend at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday with strong outings from Cowboy veterans Sean McCabe and Ryan Ripley.

McCabe, a senior from Duncanville, Okla., finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:47.13. That time is a new personal record and also makes him the third Cowboy of the weekend to become an NCAA Regional qualifier. Also in the 1,500-meter run, junior Ryan Ripley missed qualifying for the NCAAs by three tenths of a second. The Ocala, Fla. native finished 13th with a time of 3:48.62.

"In all, this was the best weekend we have had in a long time," said McCabe. "Watching the guys perform so well yesterday really got Ryan (Ripley) and I pumped up to come out and run today."

In Friday's action, Cowboy junior Joe Gray and freshman Ryan Vail became NCAA Regional qualifiers while sophomore David Jankowski became an NCAA National qualifier.

Gray's time of 8:47.92 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase was good for fourth place in the race. That time is six seconds better than his previous record in the event.

Ryan Vail finished 11th in the 5,000-meter run with a new personal best time of 14:00.65. Also in that event, freshman Daniel Watts finished 19th with a time of 14:15.67, eclipsing his old personal record of 15:17.94.

David Jankowski, a sophomore from Idaho Falls, Idaho, came within a second of breaking the school record in the 10,000-meter run with his time of 28:51.81. That time is a new personal best and also makes him an NCAA National qualifier.

The Cowboys will have next weekend off before heading to Norman, Okla., for the John Jacobs Invitational on Saturday, April 15.
