McCabe Finishes Third in Mile to Lead Cowboys

LINCOLN, Neb. -
Cowboy senior Sean McCabe gave another great performance in the one-mile run as Oklahoma State's men's track team completed another solid day at the Big 12 Conference Meet.

Mcabe, who advance to the finals with a fifth-place finish in the one-mile run prelims on Friday, grabbed third-place honors in Saturday's finals with a time of 4:04.57. Stephen Pifer of Colorado finished second while defending national champion Leonel Manzano of Texas finished in first place.

"Sean ran a great race today," said Cowboy assistant coach Dave Smith. "The guy is a fifth-year senior who walked on, but he has always believed in himself and has worked his tail off and I am extremely proud of him."

The senior from Duncan, Okla., credits much of his success to the coaches.

"Our coaches definitely know what they are talking about and the plan was for me to stay back and let the other guys in the race do all the work in the first half," said McCabe. "Half-way through, I started to make moves and I really put myself in great position to finish high and score."

Also for the Cowboys, junior David Jankowski earned a top-ten finish in the 3,000-meter run while sophomore Alejandro Ruiz set a personal record of 8:22.85 in the event. Jankowski finished ninth and Ruiz finished 19th. Also in that event, sophomore Ryan Vail finished 14th with a time of 8:20.33 and freshman Daniel Watts finished 18th with a time of 8:22.15. Junior David Pomies' time of 8:23.65 was good for 21st place. Juniors Brian Ehlis and Ryan Ripley finished 30th and 34th, respectively.
