Tulsa, Oklahoma – The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross
country teams concluded the 2005 season at the NCAA Midwest Regional
Cross Country Championships on Saturday at the Ashton Cross Country
Course in Iowa City, Iowa. The men recorded an 11th-place team mark,
while the women finished 12th overall.
Golden Hurricane sophomore Brett Turowski led the men for the fourth
time this season, registering a 32nd-place finish in a time of 32:07
for
the 10,000-meter course. Classmates Edwin Henshaw and Jason Schweitzer
claimed the 54th-place mark in a time of 32:45 and the 60th-place
finish
in a time of 32:53, respectively. Sophomore Joel Stansloski posted a
time of 33:47 for the 93rd-place mark, while junior Andrew Beard
rounded
out TU's top-five with a 95th-place finish in a time of 33:49.
Junior Lise Olivier, who turned in the top-performance for Tulsa in
each
meet this season, notched a 36th-place finish with a time of 22:24 for
the 6,000-meter course. Sophomore Breanna Chipney tallied the
58th-place
mark in a time of 22:57, while freshman Alex Becker registered a time
of
23:08 for a 67th-place finish. Junior Renine Le Heron and freshman
Marissa Saunders claimed the 92nd-place mark in a time of 23:43 and the
96th-place finish in a time of 23:50, respectively, to round out TU's
top-five marks.
Minnesota's Antonio Vega earned a top-individual mark with a time of
30:52 for the men, while Wichita State's Desiraye Osburn clocked a time
of 20:43 to post the top women's time. Oklahoma State took home both
the
men's and women's top team finishes.
"The men's team did a tremendous job," Head Coach Steve Gulley said.
"We
had the best showing at a regional meet on the men's side. The women
also improved a lot this season. As a team, we are headed in the right
direction, but we are young and we look to improve next year."
