SNU Men\'s Track Signs Hereford (Texas) High School Senior, Ricky Mariscal

 

(BETHANY,OKLA.)---Southern Nazarene University Head Men’s Track & Field Coach, Billy Miller, has announced the signing of Hereford (Texas) High School senior, Ricky Mariscal. Mariscal is a 5’10 sprinter who will join the Crimson Storm track and field team in the fall of 2007.

Mariscal has been a standout at Hereford High School throughout his high school career.  He was a Regional qualifier for the 400 meters and the mile relay in 2006 as well as earning the District Championship in the mile in ’06 and the District Runner-Up trophy in the 400 meter dash in 2006.  In 2004, Mariscal qualified for Regionals in the one mile relay. 

Ricky also excelled on the football field, where he made the Super Team Defensive team in 2006 and was a Class 3-4A Second Team All-District selection as a junior and senior at linebacker. 

Academically, Ricky was a member of the National Honor Society, was selected Who’s Who Among Hereford Students, and won the “H” Award in numerous academic categories.  He also has received the Citizenship Award the past three years at Hereford and made the Honor Roll all four years.  

Mariscal will join a Crimson Storm men’s cross-country/track squad that has posted 12 NAIA National Champions in track and field and 45 First Team All-Americans. In cross-country, SNU has had three team Sooner Athletic Conference titles and two Regional titles since the inception of the program in 1994.

“Ricky is one of the hardest working kids I have ever coached,” said Ricky’s High School coach, Charlie Garza.  “He will always do what is told and he will do it 100 percent.  He would be a great addition to the SNU program
