What You May Have Missed Week 3

Class 2A Sprint Champion Runs XC

Not often do you see 100m runners willing to go 32 times farther than their marquee race but Stroud's Peyton Davis did just that lining up for Stroud at the Meeker meet this past weekend. For context Peyton Davis is the class 2A 100m, 200m, 4x200m and 100mh state champ but as I was combing through results I happened to catch her name as Stroud's 5th runner. Now will XC make her better at her main events? Likely no. Is it cool to see a 100m champ willing to race XC so  her team can field a full squad? Yes, yes it is.

Purcells Jaden Polk Dominates the Marlow Meet

A 53-second is an impressive feat in any race but for a freshman in what is likely his first high school race it's a phenomenal start to your career. This year's freshman class is setting up to be one of the best in recent memory and Polk will be a big part of it with a 10:30 debut over 2-mile cross country. He is in 4a which has a young crop of talent with guys like Ethan Jones (Cache), Ty Brooks (Lincoln Christian), Sammy Farris (Lincoln Christian) all of who are sophomores currently so it'll be fun to watch him develop alongside these guys in the coming years.

Ethan Brooks is at El Reno

Back in the spring Ethan Brooks of Maple Middle School and personal best athletics lit up the middle school distance running scene breaking the state 8th grade record by a wide margin. There were rumors he'd be at Mustang High School, giving them an extra stud to their strong group of returners. However, earlier this fall, we received word that he would not be at Mustang but at El Reno. Now I'll give my optimistic perspective first, Ethan Brooks will make a school not known for running semi-relevant and may inspire classmates to join him bringing another school into the fold of OK High School Running. I imagine he'll continue to work with the folks at Be Bold and will individually be successful regardless of the school he's at. Now my more pessimistic outlook is we miss out on him learning from the upperclassmen at Mustang while being pushed every day at practice to be better. Short of unfortunate injuries or falling out of love with the sport he'll be successful no matter where his feet are so look forward to him crushing.

Rielyn Scheffe Possible 3A Girls Contender?

My article recapping small I made mentioned that Metro Christian had 3a girls locked down. Well as it turns out I was reading the boy's classification lists. With that being said that leaves a big opportunity for new contenders to emerge. I Believe Rielyn Scheffe of Washington High School might just be the girl to do it. She just ran 12:26 to win the small school section at the Carl Albert meet this past weekend. This 20-second victory certainly puts her in the conversation for top contender for the thrown.
