Every year, Gatorade selects one athlete from each gender and across 12 sports as their Player of the Year for every state in the country. They evaluate on the basis of athletic and academic achievement as well as character of the athletes for criteria. Afterwards, they select a national POY from the state winners.
They selected Clinton thrower Kat Meacham as the Oklahoma girls winner. She threw personal best throws in both the shot put and the discus. Her 42-11.50 best was at the state meet and earned her a runner-up finish and she tossed 172-10 in the discus and then won the the OSSA state title.
Nationally, she had top finishes at the Texas Relays and the Kansas Relays and she placed fourth at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in the discus.
Academically, Meacham graduated with a 4.0 grade point average signed to Kansas University.
Meacham also showed exemplary character; she was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She volunteered through her church for community service projects and mentored young throwers at middle school track programs.
