The Owasso XC Invitational is a classic amongst Tulsa area XC meets. Each year, Owasso High School brings out strong competition in this meet. This year, was a similar story.
It was a warm afternoon as the athletes kicked off the meet. This is almost unavoidable at this time of year in Oklahoma, as the heat just continues to attack us all. Despite the heat, we still saw some very fast times.
Noah Nelson from Owasso won the Varsity Boys 5000m with a time of 15:31.30. This is a huge leap for Nelson and he happened to set the school record. Nelson has been improving season after season, and this type of breakthrough has placed him in top five in the state conversations. He is a name to watch as the championship meets creep closer.
Jane Eller won the Varsity Girls 5000m. Her time of 17:54.80 is a freshman record for Oklahoma. She has officially ran the fastest 5k for a freshman girl ever in our state. The Broken Arrow freshman won the race by a large margin, and as she progresses through the season she will face tough competition. She now holds the 2nd fastest time in the state overall. She has a bright future in this sport!
In the team battle Owasso High School dominated the girls race with 32 points. Their front five managed to average 20:03, and scored four in the top ten. Owasso is a team to watch when discussing state title hopes for 6A.
On the boys race, Mustang took the team title in dominated fashion with 32 points. Their entire front five placed in the top ten. Mustang runs well together in a pack, and this will be something to note at the regional and state meet.
