The future of Oklahoma track and field is bright! We have seen many outstanding times and performances so far from the middle school athletes. Here are the boys future stars for this past week.
Reed Brown (Carl Albert)
Brown had a great day at the Tex Rollins Invitational. He ran 4:49.48 and 10:28.20 to win both events. He has had a very strong start to his season as he continues to put up times that are uncommon for a middle schooler.
Lucas Elsey (Mooreland)
Elsey threw for nearly 50 feet at the Steve Hickman Invitational last week. His mark of 49-8.00 sets him up very well for a strong high school career if he chooses to stick with the sport.
Channing Phillips (Moore)
Phillips leaped 21-8.50 in the long jump. This is an insanely good jump for a middle school athlete. Frankly, this is a competitive jump at many high school meets.
Koda Fish (Yukon)
Fish ran a strong 11.27 in his 100m race at the Tex Rollins meet. This puts him towards the top of the state for middle schoolers and a sub 11 time feels like something that could happen very soon.
Roman Grau (Edmond Cimarron MS)
Grau placed second behind Brown twice at Tex Rollins. However, he was near first in both events. In the 1600m he ran 4:50.36, a very strong time at his age. Then in the 3200m he went for 10:31.91, another strong time.
Grau and Brown are clearly pushing each other to fast times early on in their running journey. If both stick with it this could be a great matchup to watch down the line at the high school level.
