Week 8: Pre-State Series Week Does Not Disappoint

Griesenauer Dominates TRXC Border War; Westminster Boys Upset Rock Bridge

The ever-famous McNair Park played host to its last varsity race of the season as TRXC Timing hosted the Border War. The Border War used to be hosted in Edwardsville, IL, but has since moved to McNair and does not really involve any Illinois teams anymore. Nevertheless, it was one of the biggest meets of the weekend and it was dominated, on the girls side, by Holt senior and MoMileSplit Class 4 #5 Emily Griesenauer. Griesenauer traversed the course in a blazing fast 19:02, 55 seconds faster than Ursuline's Danielle Wright. Her time was 20 seconds faster than Parkway West's Chloe Hershenow, who won the Suburban Conference Championships on the 7th and was yet another dominant performance for the senior, solidifying her place as a top 5 runner in the state at the moment. Francis Howell North stole the show in the team race as 3rd place Paige Hercules led the Knights to a 36 point victory over Holt. Westminster was another 50 points back, so it was an impressive win for Howell North as they move into their state series push. They look like a good pick to make a trip to the state meet as a team and possibly take the district title in District 3. Lutheran South senior Riley Schelp continued her resurgence as she came through in 20:09 for fourth.

The Westminster boys, ranked #3 in Class 3, rolled to a huge victory, scoring 25 points and taking down perennial Class 4 powerhouse Rock Bridge. The Bruins scored 43, but could not stand up to the Wildcats on Friday. The top 2 teams were 98 points ahead of Liberty Wentzville in 3rd. Class 3 #8 Anthony Lloyd was the overall champion in 16:53, 17 seconds ahead of Class 2 #13 Lutheran North junior Isaac Stout. Westminster's 1-5 average of 17:20 has them rolling in the right direction with 2 weeks to go until their district meet.
