Pines Named Big 12 Athlete of the Week

IRVING, Texas – University of Oklahoma senior Ronnie Pines was named Big 12 Male Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week by the conference office Tuesday.

Pines clocked the second fastest time (6.60) this year by a collegiate athlete in the 60-meter dash, claiming victory at the Sooner Open.

The mark equaled Pines’ personal best, matched the facility record he set in 2006 and set a meet record.

It was the first such honor for the St. Louis native, who defeated teammate Marcus Pugh (6.73) and Baylor’s Jacob Norman (6.75), the defending NCAA Champion.

Pines is the second Sooner to win recognition from the Big 12.   Kevin Bookout was named male athlete of the week on Jan. 23.

Kansas State’s Loren Groves won the women’s weekly honor.

Pines and the Sooner compete this weekend at the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships in Ames, Iowa.  Pines is the conference's No. 1-ranked athlete in the 60-meter dash.
