Hearne Coach, Lewis Edmonson Coaching Small Town Big Dreams

Hearne HS has a new head coach this year; well, maybe they have a new old coach in Lewis Edmonson.

After completing a recent stint at Rockdale where he guided several individuals and relay teams to the state meet year after year, Edmonson is back at Hearne to help their program.

Edmonson is a heck of a track and field coaching hire for any program. He has experience in competing in the sport at all levels (Texas HS, collegiate, and professional).

He qualified for the Texas UIL state meet in high school, was and NCAA All-American in the 110 meter hurdles and in the 4x100 relay for Prairie View A&M University, and ran on the professional circuit after college.

One might expect to see a track and field mind and the experience of Edmonson to be at a big UIL school in the DFW, Houston, El Paso, or San Antonio area.

"I always preach accountability and being dedicated, once you're dedicated to something nobody can turn you down. It's kinda put into your hands of what you want to do. If you're given the opportunity you have to seize that moment by all means."

However, he has been a big win for the small town Texas schools like Dime Box, Snook, Rockdale, and HearneEdmonson is from Caldwell, Texas, which gave him the appreciation of small town USA.

He has the perfect insight to communicate and relate to the kids in these programs. He also knows the dreams and aspirations and what the kids are going through to try to attain them.

Edmonson has done what a lot of the kids from small town communities are facing as they try to compete. Small town Texas kids actually have many of the same aspirations as kids and student athletes from larger cities and schools.

"I always preach accountability and being dedicated, once you're dedicated to something nobody can turn you down. It's kinda put into your hands of what you want to do. If you're given the opportunity you have to seize that moment by all means," Edmonson said.

The small town big dreams is something that lies somewhere in every town. He encourages them that it something that is totally doable for them.

Some of those dreams often times follow the path Edmonson has already taken. Edmonson's path not only includes competing at high levels on every stage of athletics, but he also excelled in the classroom. To go along with his numerous amount of medals and awards, but he also has has two degrees on his walls.

"I always tell them whatever you want to do, the sky's the limit as long as you put your best foot forward and you have the dedication and accountability to do these things.
