This Weekend's 14 Upsets On The Saucony Flo50 National XC Rankings

Girls Teams

Unranked Woodridge over #14 Centerville at Saturday Night Lights (OH)

The No. 14 ranked Centerville girls have competed without their top runner, Grace Kilroy, for the past two invitationals. They were just eighth at the ASICS Hot Summer Bash and runners-up to Woodridge High School at their home meet, the Saturday Night Lights, this past weekend. Woodridge scored 133 points to Centerville's 142 points and had a 36-second spread compared to Centerville's 59-second spread. The addition of Kilroy back in the mix is the game changer, as Centerville's No. 5 placed 60th compared to Woodridge No. 5 in 41st scoring position. Kilroy is a probable top 10 runner in most major invitationals, which drops their projected score down 50 points.

#16 Jesuit over #15 American Fork, #21 Davis at Bob Firman Invitational (ID)

Jesuit and American Fork are so closely ranked at No. 15 and No. 16 that it hardly warrants mention as an 'upset.' With a six-point differential, it's clear that either team could win on any given day, as could No. 21 ranked Davis, who placed third with 116 points. For the record, Jesuit won with 95 points and American Fork scored 102 points.

The difference between the three squads is the power of the pack: Jesuit boasted a 36-second top five spread with runners placing 12, 15, 21, 23, and 24, while American Fork had a 1:37 spread and Davis a 1:21 spread. American Fork's leading runner, Sara Musselman, is a low stick (third, 17:46) with No. 2 Sammy Hollingsworth in no man's land (17th, 18:41.6) and the 3-4-5 trio of Cami Squires (33rd, 19:16.8), Bonnie Schellenberg (34th, 19:17.3) and Lexi Wright (37th, 19:24) running as a pack. They'll have to pack up much better if they want to challenge Jesuit on the next go-round.

Unranked Mountain View, Naperville North over #25 Claremont at Roy Griak (MN)

No. 8 Edina proved that they deserve their national ranking by trouncing the 445-runner, 49 team field at Roy Griak with 97 points. The rest of the standings were a surprise, however, as unranked Mountain View of Idaho (140 points) and Naperville North of Illinois (145 points) ran by No. 25 Claremont from California (187 points). Of the three teams, Naperville North has the tightest pack at 1:16 spread through 1-5 runners, but Mountain View boasted the individual champion and low-stick runner in freshman Lexy Halladay, who won by 20 seconds. Halladay is quietly undefeated thus far this season and Mountain View had won every meet before the showing at Griak.

Unranked Timpanogos, Sunset over #17 Summit at Nike Portland XC (OR)

A tight 63-second spread gave Timpanogos girls a surprise 'W' at the Nike Portland XC Invitational over Sunset, a 2015 NXN qualifier, and Summit, ranked #17 this year. We knew the boys team was good -- they rank No. 8 this year -- but overlooked the strength of the girls' team, likely because there's no seniors in the top five.

Timpanogos scored 76 points for the title, while Sunset (92) and Summit (103) were very close. Summit has a much tighter spread (1:13 compared to 2:21 between the top five scorers), but the Apollos from Oregon also have a better low stick runner in Ember Stratton, who placed second overall in this race in 17:34.5. Stratton currently ranks No. 16 in the Flo50.
