Cameron\'s Chirchir continues impressive spring

AUSTIN, Texas (April 5) - For the third straight meet, Cameron University cross country runner David Chirchir has turned in a spectacular performance.

After winning the first two steeplechase events he entered as an Aggie last month, Chirchir added another notch to his belt on Wednesday as the top NCAA finisher in the 10,000-meter run at the prestigious Texas Relays held on the campus of the University of Texas.

Chirchir, a freshman from Nairobi, Kenya, finished the race with a time of 31:55.91 to place fourth overall. However, the three runners ahead of him were a runner with the fastest time in the nation this year at the junior college level, an NAIA All-American and a non-collegiate runner. Chirchir finished ahead of all NCAA Division I and Division II athletes in the race.

Cameron head coach Matt Aguero will take Aggie runners into competition in two more spring meets this season. Chirchir and the Aggies will compete at next week\'s John Jacobs Invitational at the University of Oklahoma before concluding their spring schedule on April 20-22, at the Kansas Relays.
