SNU\'s Clay Schubert Finishes Second in 800 Meters, Men\'s Track Takes 18th at Nationals

(JOHNSON CITY,TN)---The Crimson Storm men's indoor track program finished 18th at the NAIA Indoor National Championships on Saturday and SNU's Clay Schubert finished second in the 800 Meter Relay. Southern Nazarene's Thomas Brooks came in 7th in the Pole Vault and the Crimson Storm's Distance Medley Relay team of Luis Zuvieta, Izzy Owens, Robert Oguda and Clay Schubert also finished 7th.

In the 800 Meters, Clay Schubert was outstanding, posting a preliminary round time of 1:54.06 to qualify for the finals. In the finals, Schubert improved his time by close to two seconds, posting a time of 1:52.82 to finish as the NAIA National Runner-Up. MidAmerica Nazarene's Mark Wieczorek finished first with a time of 1:52.01. Schubert scored eight points for his performance.

In the Pole Vault, SNU's Thomas Brooks registered a height of 15-07.00 (4.75 meters) to finish 7th in the nation.

SNU's Distance Medley Relay team of Schubert, Luis Zuvieta, Izzy Owens, and Robert Oguda qualified for the finals with a preliminary run of 10:15.20. In the finals, the DMR posted a time of 10:35.15 to come in 7th.

As a team, Southern Nazarene scored eight points and finished 18th in the nation. The highest any SNU men's track team has finished is 5th. SNU now sets their sights on the Outdoor Track season that begins on March 25th at the Bison Relays at Oklahoma Baptist University.
