The future stars (sophomore and freshman) have been crushing it this season. Recently, we saw many athletes in these two classes perform very well as we approach the beginning of May. Athletes doing well early in their high school careers is always nice to see, as it shows what the future is looking like for Oklahoma running.
In this case, we are focusing on the distance runners.
Crabaugh was recently featured in one of the articles this week for reaching the top five rankings in the 800m. She is currently the number one ranked 800m athlete in the state. She has ran a 2:15.21 and has a great chance to break 2:15 in a competitive 6A division. The freshman has also broken 60 seconds in the 400 meters.
Occhiuzzo had a sensational outing at the ASICS Carolina Distance Carnival. Her times of 4:57.09 in the 1600m and 10:27.57 are at the top of the state in both events. The 3200m effort is a state record, if the OSSAA decides to count it since it occurred out of state. The freshman out of Chisholm is off to an incredible start in her career and has a bright future in this sport. She is a name to watch as we get into May.
Missildine is ranked high up in every distance event this season. She has achieved times of 10:56.74 in the 3200m, 5:09.30 in the 1600m, and 2:17.31 in the 800m. She is a well rounded athlete and has had a great sophomore season. Missildine is on a strong Edmond Memorial team and has a great future in this sport.
Gross out of Bishop Kelley has put together a strong season thus far. As only a freshman, she has ran a time of 5:09.07 in the 1600m. This is an outstanding time. Gross has also nearly broken 11 minutes in the 3200m. Her time of 11:01.96 puts her in a place to likely break 11 at the state meet.
King runs for Regent Prep and has put together a season in the 1600m that has been consistent. Her personal best was achieved earlier this month with a time of 5:12.52. King has also broken 12 minutes in the 3200m and has recorded a 2:17.99 in the 800 meter race. King has shown her ability to succeed at the three main distance events and has a bright future in this sport as she is only a freshman.
