There is no doubt, Hudson Bennett is a tremendous talent and a hard worker.
The Burnet freshman has been enjoying one heck of a year. He has tallied six wins this year including the Region 4-4A championship.
It seemed like things were going well and one of the best freshmen in the state was well on his way to taking on the best at the state cross country meet.
However, things won't quite end that way though for Bennett. Last Monday, even though he won the regional meet, he came away injured. He started off fairly fine, but his physical status wasn't the same when he crossed the line.
At some point during the race, Bennett suffered a mild avulsion fracture. That is when an injury to the bone occurs near where the bone attaches to a tendon or ligament. When the fracture happens, the tendon or ligament pulls away, and a small pieces of bone pulls away with it. Bennett's injury is with the hamstring tearing away from the bone.
Roy Kiser, Burnet head coach said, "Knowing the amount of pain Hudson is in, it amazes me that he not only finished the regional race, but that he won it!"
In the race video, you can see Bennett pressing as any every other runner in the race to gain the lead. Once he attains the lead, it's hard to tell whether the injury has already occurred or if he is just experiencing the effect of the 5,000m.
