The current Maryland state leader in the boys 100 meter dash in Mervo's Joseph Ewan stepped on the track for a breezy day at the Prince George's County Sportsplex outdoor track & field facility for the AAU Region 3 Qualifier. Ewan rolled to another quick time to indicate that he might be ready to blow away his personal best in the finals later this weekend with a 10.76 clocking in the 17-18 year old boys 100 dash prelims.
The University of Maryland signee Ewan should have a good battle in the finals as Calvert junior Justin Wallace was just a tick off of him in the following heat with a 10.77 clocking. It was heavily wind aided during the 100 dash prelims as sub 11 seconds was required to make the finals among the 8 qualifiers.
Blake's Serena Harrison was the fastest qualifier for the 17-18 year old girls division with a 12.12 clocking. Harrison was the 4A West Regional champ in the 100 and 4th place finisher in the state meet while going sub 12 this spring. She will be looking to run her second sub 12 performance in the finals this weekend.
Some of the more impressive times from Friday's 100 dash prelims came from the future high school stars in the 14 year old age group with middle schooler Nyckoles Harbor of Lanham, Maryland not running far off the top times from the high school juniors and seniors later with his sizzling 10.87 performance.
Similar for the 14 year old girls top qualifier Ella Cooper of Owings Mill, Maryland breezing to a 12.15 performance in the 100 prelims of her age group. That time would rank her among the top 15 high school sprinters in the state of Maryland currently.
