Meet Info Guide: Marcus I

2016 Marcus I Boys Elite Race

The Marcus I Invitational is always the early season destination to test yourself both as an individual runner and as a team. Year in and year out, Marcus I brings the best individuals and teams from the North Texas region. The 2017 edition of Marcus I will be no different as some of the top talent will once again crash the course at North Lakes Park.

The team races should provide the entertainment. Both Marcus varsity squads are always in the hunt and this year should be no different.

On the girls side, defending UIL 6A champions Keller girls are capable of running a variety of lineups with their depth to be considered the favorites. Quality challenges should come from Southlake Carroll who won the Hebron Friday Night Hawk Invitational last weekend with a dominating performance. Hebron was also in the race with Carroll last week and showed that they have the potential to make some noise in 2017. Coppell, Frisco Liberty, Frisco Wakeland, Grapevine, Highland Park, Prosper, and Vandergrift were all at the state meet last year and could have srtong squads once again. It also looks like Kingwood, who is from the Houston area and suffered extensive flood damage due to Hurricane Harevey could be at Marcus I if the district is able to find transportation for the team.

On the boys side, Southlake Carroll, Flower Mound, Byron Nelson, and Kingwood all placed 2-5 at the UIL 6A state meet last season and will all be in attendance. Last week, at the Hebron Friday Night Hawk Invitational the Carroll boys ran to a perfect score of 15 and an 18 second team split. Also, Plano East, Plano West, Grapevine, Frisco Wakeland, and Dallas Conrad, all had their squads at the state meet last season and could be in for successful seasons again.
