Karen Shump selects Oklahoma...

Five-time PA shot put state champion Karen Shump of Penncrest, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Oklahoma where she will compete for a program with dozens of Olympians in their history.

Shump says that part of her decision was made on the opportunity to work with assistant coach Brian Blutreich, who joined the Oklahoma staff in 2007. Blutreich came from the University of North Carolina, where he had helped the school become one of the premier throws programs in the country.

Shump has won three state outdoor AAA titles in the shot put and two indoor titles.

Her indoor PR in the shot is 49-04.25, outdoor it's 49-00.75 and in the discus, it's 154-00. All three were durning her junior campaign.

Shump has also medaled twice in the discus at states.

Shump will compete in both shot and discus at Oklahoma, and may take a try at the hammer.

Other schools in her final list were Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Arizona and Penn State.
