Saucony Flo50 Summer Training Blog: Jess Lawson

Week 2: 7/18-7/24

This week I'm still training in Maine, it was a more relaxed week as I haven't had hip flexor pain in a while but my coaches wanted me to get 25-26 miles in again, simply to insure that I stay pain free. I continued to stretch, ice and do my PT exercises to keep working towards preventing further injury. I can't wait to start doing workouts and longer runs again because I'm feeling healthy and getting excited for the season to come. (7/18) Easy 6 miles at 7:35 pace, hip flexor still felt good too which made me happy. After the run I ice bathed in the ocean again and stretched. (7/19) 5 miles at 7:30 pace. After the run I did my PT exercises which included crunches, planking, body weight squats and stretching. (7/20) Today my family went on an 8 mile hike up Sargent Mountain trail, I love hiking in Maine because the ocean view is always amazing. This particular hike has a large freshwater pond at the top so we swim for a while at the peak and then hike back down. My calves were a super tight for some reason but nothing too concerning. (7/21) Today I went for just over 6 at 8:00 pace, I ran from my house through a wooded trail for 1.5 and the rest of the run I did on carriage trails. (7/22) 5 miles at 8:00 pace. I tried to mix things up and decided to try a new out and back route today...regretted it later because it ended up being completely uphill for 1.5 miles and my hip and knee was a little sore after. (7/23) Rest day (7/24) 4mi at 7:40 pace, my coaches wanted me to get roughly the same mileage as last week so today I did a short run and then jumped in our newly filled pool.
